For me, I enjoy doing creative projects in general, but when the skills I’m learning along the way are practical and can be applied to my everyday life, it gives me more motivation while I’m working. I’ve always wondered what it would be like to have a blog. I thought I might want to have my own one day, but just had no idea where to start. I’m glad I now have a general blog making skill to put in my tool box because I can almost guarantee at some point in my life I will have my own blog for fun. I’m really into journaling and writing down all my thoughts, and in my opinion, blogs are just the new age version of a diary.

Finishing Up P4 http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/27/finishing-up-p4/ Mon, 27 Apr 2015 22:18:30 +0000 http://reifsteck.wordpress.com/?p=95 ]]> What I did

I finished making the tweets with pictures in them and I started putting together the final twitter feed.

Why I did it

I wanted to have tweets with pictures in them to make the final twitter feed look more realistic as well as enhance the final project aesthetically. I also started collecting all of the finished tweets together on one document so they would be easier to unify into one final twitter feed.

Making Normal Tweets for P4 http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/24/making-normal-tweets-for-p4/ Fri, 24 Apr 2015 22:25:24 +0000 http://reifsteck.wordpress.com/?p=97 ]]> What I did

Today, I started making all of the tweets that don’t have any special customizations in them.

Why I did it

I wanted to get all of these tweets knocked out in one session because they are the easiest to make. Even though they are all out of order at the moment, I wanted to get them out of the way so I could organize everything the way I wanted it once I had my special tweets with pictures done.

Peer Evaluation http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/22/peer-evaluation/ Wed, 22 Apr 2015 22:34:29 +0000 http://reifsteck.wordpress.com/?p=99 ]]> Because I was not in class today, I had one of my classmates, Doug Bowman, evaluate my Remix a Story Project. Since I had to redo my entire project mock-up, which actually took a very long time, I had him look over that and tell me what he thought. Overall, he said he liked the idea of the project, but there were still a couple things I had to work on. I had to make sure I emphasized the “basic-ness” of the characters more, because some of them just seemed like normal tweets. Also, Doug said I should try to add more tweets with pictures or other different characteristics because it could really enhance my final product. Besides those two things, he thought I was on the right track.

Revision Plan:

  • Make characters more dramatic
  • Create more special tweets

Working on P4 Continued http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/20/working-on-p4-continued/ Mon, 20 Apr 2015 15:41:36 +0000 http://reifsteck.wordpress.com/?p=84 ]]> What I did

Over the weekend, I re-watched the last episode of Breaking Bad as well as finished working on my mock-up from Wednesday’s class.

Why I did it

I had to re-watch the last episode of Breaking Bad because I felt like my mock-up was lacking some important scenes and events that I had looked over. After I watched the episode, I finished my mock-up so that I could have a nice outline to keep my thoughts organized as well as have the foundation of my project clearly spelled out.

Mock-up Draft http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/15/mock-up-draft/ Wed, 15 Apr 2015 16:03:15 +0000 http://reifsteck.wordpress.com/?p=82 ]]> What I did

Today, I started my mock-up outline that I will be using to make my final project. I did it on a Word document and organized but numbering each potential tweet in the order that they will be tweeted.

Why I did it

I did my mock-up on a Word document because it is the fastest and most efficient way for me to make outlines. I didn’t want to look in to the other ways of making outlines because I thought it would take too long to figure them out, and I’ve always planned everything I’ve created using either a pen and piece of paper or a Word document. This meant I could make an outline with ease and also in a way that is familiar to me.

While I was making my outline, I realized I didn’t remember as much about this certain episode as I thought I did. Therefore, when I get home, I am going to have to re-watch the episode to make sure I don’t forget any important parts.

Beginning of My Mockup

Breaking Bad – Felina

Twitter page outline

  1. Tweet by police: trying to find Walter White
  2. Tweet by Walter: “you’ll never find me” – in car
    1. Something about driving back to Albuquerque?
    2. Picture of him in car?
  3. Skyler: “Oh God, Walter is tweeting again which means he’s not in his isolation cabin anymore…”
  4. Jesse Pinkman: being a slave in the white supremacist gang
  5. Gretchen: “being treated to dinner tonight by my lovely husband tonight at our country residence <3 #livinlarge #besthubby”
    1. picture of a pretty countryside dinner
  6. Badger: being a fake assassin with Skinny Pete and getting into place
  7. Gretchen: “you know that weird feeling you get when something is off but you can’t put your finger on it? I’m feeling that now…hmm.”
  8. Walter: lol
  9. Gretchen: “When Walter White breaks into your house and forces you to give $9.2 million to his son or else you’ll be murdered <<<”
  10. Jesse Pinkman: “still haven’t shaved, showered, or brushed my teeth in this lab. Walter, you want to break me out any time soon? #beardgamestrong”

What I Did for P4 Today and Timeline http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/13/what-i-did-for-p4-today-and-timeline/ Mon, 13 Apr 2015 15:53:58 +0000 http://reifsteck.wordpress.com/?p=80 ]]> What I did

Today, I looked over a few of the tutorials posted on our class website as well as looked into the different tools that are available to use for fake social media accounts.

Why I did it

I looked at the tutorials because I am very rusty using tools such as iMove, Photoshop and things along those lines. It’s going to take me a while to figure out how to use these, but watching the tutorials at least gives me a place to start. I also looked at the fake social media account generators. Because there is no tool for making a fake Instagram, I think I’m going to have to look into using a different type of social media for my project.

Timeline

4/15 – Finalize what social media tool to use for story and make a mock-up

4/17 – Start collecting assets

4/20 – Sign up for presentation and have rough draft of project done

4/22 – Peer eval

4/24 – Have project done

4/29-5/6 – Presentations

5/6 – Project Due

Thinking about P4 http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/03/thinking-about-p4/ Fri, 03 Apr 2015 22:47:38 +0000 http://reifsteck.wordpress.com/?p=101 ]]> What makes a good remix?

  • Sticking to story line
  • Getting creative with the tool used to remix (Twitter feed, video, prezi, etc.)
  • Using multiple modes of communication

What makes a good digital story?

My favorite remix out of the examples was the Hunger Games magazine flip book. What I liked about it was the sheer amount of content in it, the fact they used so many pictures, and finally how it was organized like an actual magazine would look.

The “Once Upon a Times” remix was too wordy in my opinion. I really liked how most of the remix examples embraced the new age and based their projects around social media. However, this once seemed somewhat bland because it was almost all words and was done on a newspaper, which is a venue of communication that our generation doesn’t really use all that often making it seem outdated.

Story considerations?

  • Cinderella
  • Breaking Bad
  • Where the Wild Things Are

Fetchnotes http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/03/30/fetchnotes/ Mon, 30 Mar 2015 15:56:47 +0000 http://reifsteck.wordpress.com/?p=42 ]]> The interface I found most interesting from the presentations today was Fetchnotes. I thought it was very practical because there aren’t many great reminder tools out there for people to use. If I need to set a reminder now, I either do it on my phone (which I don’t really like because it layout confuses me and is hard to navigate) or I write it down on a paper that get’s lost among everything else in my disorganized filing system. Fetchnotes lets you set reminders and categorize them so they are much easier to sort through. I actually think I’m going to download this app on my phone.
