rachelprill – Spring 2015 Class Blogs http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com Blogs by Students in the Spring 2015 Sections Thu, 29 Oct 2015 01:12:29 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.5.3 What I Did #28 http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/27/what-i-did-28/ Mon, 27 Apr 2015 15:47:41 +0000 http://rachelprill.wordpress.com/?p=575 ]]> What I Did: I created a new presentation on Google slides. I created five slides as an outline for my presentation…

  • Title
  • Project idea
  • Process
  • Struggles
  • Final thoughts

*If I need to expand on a section, I will add additional slides.

Why I Did It: I started my presentation because I am presenting on Friday! I made these five separate slides to organize the information in my presentation. I plan to limit the text on the slides and include many visual elements (especially images). That way, my slides will be both clean and engaging.

What I Did #27 http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/26/what-i-did-27/ Sun, 26 Apr 2015 15:16:41 +0000 http://rachelprill.wordpress.com/?p=573 ]]> What I Did: I used pencil to create the boxes for my comic. Then I began sketching out the images in each box. I completed my first two pages of my comic. I plan to complete the last page of drawings tomorrow. Afterwards, I will draw over all the pencil with micron pens.

Why I Did it: I used pencil because this is a rough copy. I plan to use micron pens because they will darken the images and create a greater contrast.

What I Did #16 http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/24/what-i-did-16-2/ Fri, 24 Apr 2015 15:53:49 +0000 http://rachelprill.wordpress.com/?p=518 ]]> What I Did: I went onto Fliphtml’s website and found out that the site was temporarily taken down. So I went searching for other tools (just in case the site didn’t come back up) and I found FlipSnack.

Why I Did It: I visited the site to try uploading another file (since I had issues last time). However, I quickly found out that the site was taken down. I immediately went searching for other sites because this was a key tool for my project. I chose FlipSnack because it is very similar to the previous site, in that, it turns files into flip books. However, if Fliphtml comes back online, I will definitely use that!

What I Did #16 http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/22/what-i-did-16/ Wed, 22 Apr 2015 15:50:58 +0000 http://rachelprill.wordpress.com/?p=497 ]]> Draft of Project:

2015-04-22_1105

Revision plan:

  • What I heard: Both of my partners really liked the concept of my project. In terms of the drawings, they said I should make them modern (rather than doing the typical Disney depiction). And that in terms of color I should either follow the old black and white style or add lots of color. They also suggested that I do bulky head phones and a stero system rather than small earbuds; it makes the scene more dramatic. And that I could even have her lock the door.  Afterwards, we agreed that I should have a coverpage for the comic.
  • What I still need to do: I need to finish up drawing the comic. Then I can scan them to the computer and start editing. When I edit the comics, I will either add black and white or color; I will mess with both and see which is better. Afterwards, I will turn the images into a PDF and upload them to FlipHtml.

What I Did #15 (Online Work) http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/17/what-i-did-15-online-work/ Fri, 17 Apr 2015 14:24:05 +0000 http://rachelprill.wordpress.com/?p=483 ]]> Project Method: I am going to be using FlipHtml5 to display my project. Here are the steps of my plan:

  1. I will hand-draw the bare bones of the comics.
  2. I will scan the comics onto a computer.
  3. Then I will use Photoshop to edit the comics (add shading, color, etc.).
  4. Afterwards, I will make the files into a PDF so they will be compatible with FlipHtml.
  5. I will upload them to FlipHtml to make the comics appear to be in a book.

At the end of this process, I will have a digital, hand-drawn comic book!

What I Did #14 http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/15/what-i-did-14/ Wed, 15 Apr 2015 16:06:40 +0000 http://rachelprill.wordpress.com/?p=436 ]]> What I Did: I spent the entire class period working on my storyboard. My process was fairly simple—I created a box, drew an image for each, wrote the action above, and any dialog below. Then I highlighted the actions of each scene in yellow. Once I finished, I wrote down some of my other thoughts and ideas (Ex: making her room and clothing modern).

Why I Did it: I made a storyboard to visually outline my text. That way, I have a better sense of what I am doing. I created the boxes with text to make the board as simple and organized as possible. I highlighted the text to make each action stand out. Then I included other thoughts and ideas so I would have future mental notes; that way, I’ll actually remember the ideas.

What I Did #13 http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/13/what-i-did-13/ Mon, 13 Apr 2015 15:55:25 +0000 http://rachelprill.wordpress.com/?p=362 ]]> Timeline
  • April 13—Story Board
  • April 15—Finalize story board/ get dialogue
  • April 17—Drawing
  • April 20—Drawing
  • April 22—Peer Review feedback
  • April 24—Use flash/video editing

What I Did: First, I created a timeline for Project 4: Remix a Story. Then I went onto Lynda.com and found videos for Flash Professional CS6 to utilize later. Then I began my storyboard on a lined piece of paper; I  planned out what each character would look like and how I was going to set up the scene.

Why I Did it: I created a timeline so that I would stay on top of my project. Then I found the videos on Flash because it is the tool I chose for my project. I will watch these videos later today, that way, I can get a better understanding of the tool. After finding the videos, I began planning my story board  to get an idea of what I wanted to do. I sketched out different characters and the scene to again, get a sense of what the project would/could look like.

What I Did #12 http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/08/what-i-did-12/ Wed, 08 Apr 2015 16:00:18 +0000 http://rachelprill.wordpress.com/?p=337 ]]> The story I’ve chosen: I have decided to do the classic fairytale, Cinderella.

Portion of story: I plan to do the end scene of  Brothers Grimm’s Ashenputtel. In this scene, Ashenputtel’s step-sisters cut off their heels to fit into the slipper.

Genre for the project: I plan to do an animated video using Flash. As previously stated, I will focus on that one scene. I will either modernize plot itself or add funny/modern dialogue.

Three sources: I plan to use these three sources…

  • History of Cinderella: “Cinderella.” Wikipedia. Wikimedia Foundation, n.d. Web. 08 Apr. 2015.
  • Biography of Brother’s Grimm: “Brothers Grimm.” Wikipedia. Wikimedia Foundation, n.d. Web. 08 Apr. 2015.
  • The full text: Need to get the citation information from my professor

What I Did # 11 (Online Work) http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/03/what-i-did-11-online-work/ Fri, 03 Apr 2015 15:19:32 +0000 http://rachelprill.wordpress.com/?p=327 ]]> What Makes a Good Remix:

  • Include various images; memes are funny
  • Creating a fake facebook to represent character’s thoughts
  • Mix it up with format: blog, prezi, youtube video, etc.
  • Use audio, but needs to be done well

What Makes a Good Digital Story: I really liked the Chamber of PostSecrets. It was a really different take on Harry Potter. I loved the use of the anonymous mail to create a story of its own. I also liked the use of music on the site; normally it is really annoying, but I liked it a lot!

Stories I am Considering: I am considering Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and Snow White. I am considering these stories because there are several different version of the story, so I would have a lot to work with. Maybe I can compare the stories in a funny way?

Presentations Day #3 http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/03/30/presentations-day-3/ Mon, 30 Mar 2015 15:39:25 +0000 http://rachelprill.wordpress.com/?p=313 ]]> Out of all the presentations, I found Inklewriter to be the most interesting. I loved the fact it that you could write interactive stories. Not only that, but it keeps the story well organized which allows the writer to concentrate on his/her writing. I would definitely use this site to write and publish interactive stories!111
