Classwork – Spring 2015 Class Blogs http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com Blogs by Students in the Spring 2015 Sections Thu, 29 Oct 2015 01:12:29 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.5.3 Class Work April 27th, 2015 http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/27/class-work-april-27th-2015/ Mon, 27 Apr 2015 15:50:32 +0000 http://brianleahey.wordpress.com/?p=123 ]]> Today (after I managed to get my internet to work), I began to narrow down the images that I am going to use in my final project. I have a good collection of pictures that I am going to Photoshop, and I am excited to see what I will be able to do with them. I’ve never really used Photoshop before, but I know the fundamentals, so it will be interesting to see what I come up with.

Class Work April 24th, 2015 http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/24/class-work-april-24th-2015/ Fri, 24 Apr 2015 15:58:18 +0000 http://brianleahey.wordpress.com/?p=121 ]]> Today I looked through the actual text of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea to see what is written about the areas that I’m going to be doing my project on. I feel that it’s given me a good direction to go in visually.

Revision Plan http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/22/revision-plan-11/ Wed, 22 Apr 2015 15:43:31 +0000 http://brianleahey.wordpress.com/?p=119 ]]> In peer review today, it was suggested that I Photoshop images to incorporate underwater architecture and images of the submarine that the crew is on in order to make the images look more like they are from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. This has really helped me make a decision on how I’m going to move forward with this project. I was having trouble deciding between drawing or editing images. I already have some pictures to use a reference, so I think editing them to incorporate the elements of the book would have a really good result.

Creating a (Rough) Rough Outline http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/21/creating-a-rough-rough-outline/ Tue, 21 Apr 2015 22:10:00 +0000 http://brianleahey.wordpress.com/?p=116 ]]> I created a very rough mock-up of the separate places I want to do postcards on. There are a few more places mentioned in the book that I’m not quite sure about using yet. There is a mixture of both real and fictional locations. I haven’t found many pictures to edit/use for inspiration yet, so right now my postcards are just place holders with the names of the places I want displayed on them. I have a few ideas for how I want to show the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, but I will have to play around with them before coming to a final decision.

Mock-up

Mock-Up vs. Storyboard http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/15/mock-up-vs-storyboard/ Wed, 15 Apr 2015 15:33:59 +0000 http://brianleahey.wordpress.com/?p=114 ]]> I think for my project’s outline I am going to do a mock-up. My project is going to be made up almost entirely of still images, so I think that using a mock-up will make the planning process a lot easier than if I used a storyboard. I’m not really presenting the story of the book, but rather I’m showing pictures of the places from the book.

Proposing a Story http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/08/proposing-a-story/ Wed, 08 Apr 2015 17:29:56 +0000 http://brianleahey.wordpress.com/?p=105 ]]> I would like to do my project on 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne. I will create post cards from the various places the crew travels under the ocean.  I haven’t decided if I’m going to hand-draw them or create the images in a image editing program yet.

Some sources I’m planning on using are:
http://www.its.uci.edu/~mredmond/Maps/Nemo.html (as a map of where the crew traveled),
http://www.online-literature.com/verne/leaguesunder/ (the actual text),
and Google Images to get an idea of how I want to fashion the postcards

Day 3 of Presentations http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/03/30/day-3-of-presentations/ Mon, 30 Mar 2015 15:49:28 +0000 http://brianleahey.wordpress.com/?p=64 ]]> I could definitely see myself using Fetchnotes. I’m always making notes and reminders all over the place, and that sometimes results in me forgetting about things I need to do or want to remember. I think having all of my notes consolidated in one place would be really beneficial.

Day 2 of Presentations http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/03/27/day-2-of-presentations/ Fri, 27 Mar 2015 16:02:03 +0000 http://brianleahey.wordpress.com/?p=62 ]]> X-Ray Goggles really interested me. It seems like a really fun way to begin to learn HTML. I can see myself playing around with it for a little while and enjoying myself. I’m definitely going to try it out and see what I can learn from it.

Project 3 Checklist http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/03/26/project-3-checklist-3/ Fri, 27 Mar 2015 00:45:44 +0000 http://brianleahey.wordpress.com/?p=60 ]]> Checklist Observations:

I need to still add screenshots to my web essay, and I need to set up navigation between pages. Right now, I have my entire essay on one page, so I’ll have to split it up into different sections.

What I Did:

I took some additional screenshots to use in my essay.

Why I Did It:

The screenshots will be helpful for illustrating what I’m talking about rather than having the reader have to visualize the website in their head.

Day 1 of Presentations http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/03/23/day-1-of-presentations/ Mon, 23 Mar 2015 15:54:16 +0000 http://brianleahey.wordpress.com/?p=57 ]]> I thought that Coggle seemed like a really useful tool for note taking. My notes can get messy sometimes and this linear layout seems like it would make my notes way easier to follow. I’ll definitely try it out next time I’m taking notes in class.
