I created all of the subpages.  I outlined my essay within those pages and decided what exactly I will be talking about.  I then started writing my overview of my interface on the main page.

Why I did what I did:

I created all the of subpages to allow me to organize my thoughts to start my essay.  I outlined my essay to allow me to just be able to go in and start writing and have a clear idea on what I am going to be writing about.  This should expedite my writing as the main points are already there.  I then started writing my overview to start my essay.

2/18 Daily Post http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/02/19/218-daily-post/ Fri, 20 Feb 2015 02:06:58 +0000 http://thereactionistblog.wordpress.com/?p=45 ]]> What I did

I cleaned up some of my syntax and added a page dedicated to my puppy. I mostly went over my posts and tags to check for consistency.

Why I did it

Adding more pages at this point would just clutter the blog. I added some pictures of my pup to add another personal element to the blog as well as build on the amount of visual content within the blog. as today is the last day of editing posts, i decided to focus on making sure the previous posts weren’t riddled with extra commas and missing periods while making sure the pages on my blog looked as they should.

On my About Me page, I commented on my love for country music. I also added a gallery to the page with pictures of several concerts I have attended. I also removed the sharing links and comment box from the About Me and the Site Information pages. I also used the heading formatting tool to increase the size of the headings on my About Me page. I also added a horizontal line between the two sections.

Why I did this:

I added the gallery/information about country music to make my About Me page a little more personal. It also added some flare to my page with the inclusion of the concert pictures in the gallery. I removed the sharing links and the liking option to make the About Me and the Site Information pages cleaner. I don’t think it is necessary to allow people to share/like these pages, especially because they are strictly for informative purposes. I also removed the comment box on both pages, because again I don’t think it is necessary to comment on these strictly informative pages. I changed the headings to be actual headings to add size for clarification of the different sections of the page. I also added a horizontal bar to clearly define the separation between the two sections on the page.

2/13 Daily Post http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/02/13/213-daily-post/ Sat, 14 Feb 2015 03:52:29 +0000 http://thereactionistblog.wordpress.com/?p=36 ]]> What I did

Today was a productive day for working on this blog. I have written and included both a site info page, an about me page, and reformatted the widgets so that they would look nicer on the blog.

Why I did it

To further develop the site I needed to create a site info page that made mentions of the designs and widgets that I am using. I also needed the about page to show properly while still remaining concise and conveying (at least to some extent) who I am.With these touches, the blog has started to reach a more completed feeling as opposed to the empty husk of a site that it started out as.I added and rearranged widgets so that there would be more material and a more personalized feel to the blog and I felt like the Goodreads widget added achieves that.

I updated my About Me and Site Information pages. I added a blurb about me and then used my project 1 identity statement. I added information about WordPress, my theme, and images to the Site Information page.

Why I did what I did:

I added the small blurb about me to let viewers know more about who I am and the purpose of the blog. I then used my online identity statement that allows for the viewer to learn about how I interact on the internet. I added the information about my design decisions to allow the viewer to know why I made the decisions that I made when setting up my blog.

customize() http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/02/09/customize/ Mon, 09 Feb 2015 15:54:33 +0000 http://slovene1.wordpress.com/?p=21 ]]> What I did:

Today, I did some customization to my theme. I played with different background colors and changed the header image. I also created various pages that will act as placeholders.

Why I did what I did:

I chose to stay with the white background and gray text to give even contrast to the site. It is to help readability, while not making it hard on the eyes. I also chose the yellow/gray colors, because the yellow blends better than the teal color choice (especially for links). I chose the code as my header image because it accurately represents a major aspect of my life and ties in with the theme of my blog. I also began creating the Site Information page and have given photo credits to the header image.

Day Two http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/02/07/day-two/ Sat, 07 Feb 2015 20:28:47 +0000 http://thereactionistblog.wordpress.com/?p=8 ]]> What I Did:

I’d already messed around with all of the visual elements I wanted to alter on Thursday. Oops.
I went ahead and added a follow widget for those who would like to follow by email and messed around with the color themes a bit as well and added tags to my posts.

Why I Did It:

I added the Widget to increase my websites accessibility for the average user or viewer that does not use WordPress as their primary blogging platform. I also messed around with the colors a bit but ultimately decided that the original was more pleasing to the eye. The tags were added so that I could better find my posts as the semester progresses and I need to look back on what I’ve changed.

chooseTheme() http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/02/06/choosetheme/ Fri, 06 Feb 2015 17:32:10 +0000 http://slovene1.wordpress.com/?p=5 ]]> What I did:

I watched the lynda.com video on “Changing the Appearance of Your Site” and then I chose the Hemingway Rewritten theme for my site.

Why I did what I did:

I chose this theme because I liked the clean layout that flowed downward on that page. It doesn’t have many distractions along the side, but those are customizable options. I also like the fact that there is a place to customize a picture-based header that can tie directly into the purpose of my site.

First Post http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/02/05/first-post-3/ Thu, 05 Feb 2015 20:07:00 +0000 http://thereactionistblog.wordpress.com/?p=3 ]]> What I did:

For the basics of putting my blog together I chose my URL and set up my new WordPress blog,  went with the Choco theme, added a tagline and uploaded an avatar.

Why I Did It:

I selected the colors, title, and quotation all on the premise of making a very simple but easy to use and relaxing to view site. My goals in developing this site as the semester goes on is to incorporate elements of HTML editing (that I’m just now becoming familiar with) and images to create a sort of conversational coffee shop aesthetic to the blog. As I’m learning to build a website from scratch outside of class I hope to eventually link the two sites to complement one another after this semester.

Hello World http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/02/04/hello-world-2/ Wed, 04 Feb 2015 15:41:12 +0000 http://slovene1.wordpress.com/?p=2 ]]> What I did:

Today, I signed up for my very first blog. I named my blog Hello Blog, and I also quickly chose a theme.

Why I did these things:

I named by blog Hello Blog as a reference to the program that most learn when they first begin coding; hence, the name of this post as well. I did this because I am a Computer Science major and this is a first time blogging experience for me. So why not start things off on the same note?  I chose the theme just to finish the initial setup process.
