Interrogate an Interface Progress – Spring 2015 Class Blogs http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com Blogs by Students in the Spring 2015 Sections Thu, 29 Oct 2015 01:12:29 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.5.3 Peer Reviewing for Project Three http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/03/20/peer-reviewing-for-project-three/ Fri, 20 Mar 2015 14:53:41 +0000 http://catherinechristi.wordpress.com/?p=160 ]]> What I Heard in Peer Review

My classmate looked over part of my web essay.  She like my incorporation of pictures into the text and that I bolded the key words.

What I Need to Do

I need to add my notes and information to the pages I created for affordances and constraints.  Once I add this content, I can take my screenshots and key points and add them to my presentation.

Working on My Essay http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/03/19/working-on-my-essay/ Fri, 20 Mar 2015 01:57:50 +0000 http://catherinechristi.wordpress.com/?p=153 ]]> What I Did

I created the navigational structure for my project.  I added pages for each section of my web essay, and I created links between the pages.

I also worked on my web essay.  I focused on the rhetorical analysis portion of interrogating my interface, and I was able to write an overview of audioBoom incorporating this information.

Why I Did It

The links and navigational structure make it easy for readers to find information and follow the project.  I also wanted to split up the information clearly.  This divides up the information by topic and prevents a page that is too text-heavy.

The section of my web essay that I worked on gives some background on audioBoom.  This gives readers a foundation for understanding the interface’s affordances and constraints.  This section also addresses the purpose author, audience, genre, and context.

Working in Class 3/16 http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/03/16/working-in-class-316/ Mon, 16 Mar 2015 14:54:42 +0000 http://catherinechristi.wordpress.com/?p=130 ]]> What I Did

Today I looked through audioBoom more, and I started answering and thinking through the writer/designer analysis questions.  I mostly focused on the rhetorical analysis questions (which cover the audience, purpose, context, and author).

Why I Did It

This helped me to understand the purpose and readers/writers involved with my interface.  Looking back at these questions will give me an outline for my web essay and help me when I’m putting together the draft.

Working Outside of Class http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/03/05/working-outside-of-class/ Thu, 05 Mar 2015 20:44:51 +0000 http://catherinechristi.wordpress.com/?p=122 ]]> What I Did

I began working on project three for audioBoom today.  First, I created a login and a profile.

I then explored the site.  I looked at the home page, the kinds of audio that are available, and the way the site works.  audioBoom allows users to listen to different genres of audio – ranging from music to news to comedy.  Users can also follow others and upload their own audio clips.

I decided to also download the app for iPhone, which is free.

I explored the app as well.  I like the overall layout of the app better, but dislike the navigation.

When I finished looking through the app, I looked over the Writer/Designer analysis questions.  I didn’t write anything for them today, but I started to think about how each section applies to my interface.

Why I Did It

My work today was mostly an introduction to audioBoom.  Exploring the site both online and on the app allowed me to see how it works.  I was also able to create a login and profile that I can continue to use as I work on this project.

Scheduling Project Three http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/03/04/scheduling-project-three/ Wed, 04 Mar 2015 15:45:26 +0000 http://catherinechristi.wordpress.com/?p=120 ]]> For my 50 minutes of work outside of class, I plan to accomplish these things:

  • Create a login for the tool
  • Research what the tool does and how it works

I can also start working on the analysis questions if I have time.  By Wednesday, March 18, I would like to have completed the following:

This will allow me to accomplish the following two drafts by Friday, March 20:

  • Draft my web essay
  • Draft my slideshow

Reviewing Past Projects http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/03/02/reviewing-past-projects/ Mon, 02 Mar 2015 15:34:07 +0000 http://catherinechristi.wordpress.com/?p=118 ]]> Today, we looked at past projects for interrogating an interface.  My group looked at a project about Haiku Deck, which is a presentation app.

When I create my project, I would like to use tabs and/or links for easy navigation.  The Haiku Deck interrogation is fairly organized, and it is well written; however, everything is found on one page.  It would be nice to have links to the different sections or pages included in the project.

Different pages for different sections of the text would provide a way to quickly find a specific section.  This would also allow the reader to see how the information is divided and easily navigate through the project.

Choosing an Interface http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/02/27/choosing-an-interface/ Fri, 27 Feb 2015 15:30:50 +0000 http://catherinechristi.wordpress.com/?p=115 ]]> I selected an interface for project three today.  I chose audioBoom, which is a site used to record and listen to audio/podcasts.  It provides listening from NPR, BBC, Huffington post, and others.

I chose this site because I’ve never heard of it or used anything like it before.  My first choice was taken, and this interface looked interesting as well.  It’s also an app, so I could try it on my phone or iPad.
