Why I Did It

The memo is required for every project we turn in to explain our project from our point of view and help with grading.

Today I finished my Remix and created my presentation!

Why I Did it:

I fixed the layout of my remix project project because it was a little hard to read. I chose Google slides as my presentation tool because I already had my story in a Google slides presentation. I think it works better as a presentation tool than as a remix tool. I decided to use only words in my presentation because my project is short enough that we can take a look at the site during my presentation slot. Also, I think my project looks better all together than separately; the tweets look strange when they are out of context.

Today I officially set up a Pinterest account and created boards that I thought would be appropriate for my remix. I looked on image sharing sites, such as Flickr, for images to use.

Why I Did It:

I needed to officially decide how I was going to make these boards and what content was going in them. I also knew it would be somewhat difficult to find pictures so now was a good time to start looking.

Since wednesday, I have finished the final version of my static graphic and put it into a new ThingLink file. After doing that, I went through and highlighted all the parts of my graphic and added text explaining each part. I also added a video that illustrates the ineffectivenss of the Hokey Pokey.

Why I Did It

I added all the text as a way to explain why each part of the song/dance was actually bad. Some of the explanations are nonsense, however they can be proven to be true in extreme situations. I then thought that adding a video would be a good way to again highlight the bad parts of the Hokey Pokey in a more realistic situation, even though the video is an animation.

Today I designed a site on my blog for my Remix project. I imported all of the tweets and the facebook posts onto the page and wrote narrations for the story. I started working on the design of the site itself, especially the layout of the pictures.

Why I did it:

I’m getting to the end of my project, so I really needed to get the elements of my project onto a website. I really like the website look better than Google Slides, so I’m very happy with my decision. I just need to fix the layout so that the story and narrations are in order.

After having my rough cut reviewed by two other classmates, there are a few things that I need to change. I was told that the overall idea and the start of my graphic looks pretty good and is creative (which is the risk I’m taking by making a graphic from scratch).

Going forward I need to arrange my picture so it flows easier to the eye. It is currently a little scattered as far as being about to flow from one picture to the next within the graphic. I also need to clean up a few of the pictures and add a couple words to each. Currently, I only have a left arm and left leg illustrated, but should change that to illustrate both arms and legs just for clarification purposes.

The work I have left going forward is pretty simple. I need to make these minor changes to my graphic and then put the graphic in ThingLink. Once I do that I can add bubbles to each part of my graphic and then explain how each graphic debunks the idea that the Hokey Pokey “is what its all about.”

Since friday I have gained a lot of work on the rough cut of my graphic. I have the size down and the title of the graphic completed. I am currently working on cutting out parts of another picture and inserting them into my graphic to illustrate each part of the Hokey Pokey.

Why I Did It

I am cutting out each part because that is the best way I think I’ll be able to break down the dance and prove (in some fashion) why the Hokey Pokey is not what’s its all about.

Today I started putting all of my images into a presentation format. I tried out Prezi, but I decided I wanted to use Google Slides instead.

Why I Did It:

With peer review quickly approaching (next class!), I knew I needed to start pulling together different parts of my project into one “thing.” I tried Prezi because I’ve never used it, but I actually kind of hated it. So I went with Google Slides, which I’ve only ever used to import slide shows into my Google Drive. I need to start working on compiling my sources into the presentation.
