epalls – Spring 2015 Class Blogs http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com Blogs by Students in the Spring 2015 Sections Thu, 29 Oct 2015 01:12:29 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.5.3 the FINAL blog post http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/27/the-final-blog-post/ Mon, 27 Apr 2015 14:59:12 +0000 http://adventureswitherica2015.wordpress.com/?p=172 ]]> What I did?
I finalized my project, and confirmed with my professor that it would be okay to use the project with the watermark when I submitted it to my wordpress. I also finished the powerpoint that I will be using to aid in the showing of my “film”

Why I did it?
Well, my presentation is Wednesday so I wanted to be completely ready by tomorrow. I just have to send Professor Gardner my link to the powerpoint and water-marked project, I was nervous that I’d have to re-do my entire project, because the tool required me to pay $39.99 if I wanted to export it to any other place. Fortunately, I’m able to preview it and show the class from my computer and then explain the constraint during my presentation. Wound up being a lot less stressful than I had anticipated. I made my powerpoint similar colors to my film, so that the theme ran through my entire project, Princess Productions.

producing the princess project http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/24/producing-the-princess-project/ Fri, 24 Apr 2015 15:05:29 +0000 http://adventureswitherica2015.wordpress.com/?p=170 ]]> What I did?
Today I finished my video! I switched the music for the background, edited the photos to all be black and white so they transitioned better, and then saved the entire preview to my computer.

Why I did it?
I wanted to finish my section of the video early so that I could work on the presentation part this weekend. I’m happier with my selection of music throughout the preview, because it’s livelier and more exciting than the “suspenseful” one I had before. Unfortunately, when I decided to save the film, a MASSIVE WATERMARK comes across. I assume this occurs because I didn’t buy the tool, but I will need to figure out how to work around this for the actual completion next week…..

Thought everything was going well, until that slight problem.

Revision Plan http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/22/revision-plan-8/ Wed, 22 Apr 2015 14:51:53 +0000 http://adventureswitherica2015.wordpress.com/?p=168 ]]> Today I showed my peers my work and they enjoyed the film. They gave me positive feedback, as well as constructive criticism that I was able to use to edit my project. They agreed that I should have a constant theme, a similar font throughout. They also said that I should focus (and transition) between tweets, because the audience wouldn’t be able to read them. It was also recommended that I avoid placing words on top of the scene with tweets because of the “words on words” look. I have corrected a lot of these issues, and would like to continue to work on the transitions and potentially see if I should add anything else to the preview. If not, I will start working on my presentation this weekend, as I am signed up to present a week from today.

adding music http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/20/adding-music/ Mon, 20 Apr 2015 14:55:56 +0000 http://adventureswitherica2015.wordpress.com/?p=166 ]]> What I’ve done?
I made a sources document, as well as downloaded multiple pieces of free music that I could use for the background and introduction to my project.

Why I’ve done it?

At the end of my “preview” I’m going to have to list credits, and this does not just mean, the actor’s name, but also where I received some of the photos and audio for my project. Even if I decide not to use certain things,it’s better to have the citation placed somewhere safe. I was not familiar with sites that allow you to download classical pieces. This was pretty neat, so I spent a majority of the class today deciding what kind of music would be appropriate for a Princess Productions film. I chose a suspenseful opening sort of tune, to introduce the characters that will each have a few moments to explain their situations. I plan to film this week and then edit by the weekend.

a rough sketch (storyboard) http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/15/a-rough-sketch-storyboard/ Wed, 15 Apr 2015 14:39:02 +0000 http://adventureswitherica2015.wordpress.com/?p=163 ]]> WEDNESDAY

What I did?
Today I created a storyboard, I apologize for the lack of artistic talent, there’s a reason I’m a professional writing major and not an art major. Check below. I also wrote out the dialogue that I need my friend to say out loud for one of the scenes, and then the dialogue I will be saying.

Why I did it?
I needed to makes sure I had a draft of the structure of the “preview” or commercial that I’m creating. It helped to write out the different scenes, as I had broken them up into 12 sections, and made sure to include the parts I had already made and then those I still had to film. I also reminded myself to include a “CREDITS” page at the end so I could make sure to put Erin’s name in there, as well as sites I used in order to make the fake twitter, photos, etc. Writing out what we were going to say allowed me to re-tell the stories of Cinderella and Ariel with a bit of a twist because they’re actually college-aged students. I feel more on track after creating a story board.

Cinderella vs. Ariel begins http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/13/cinderella-vs-ariel-begins/ Mon, 13 Apr 2015 15:08:51 +0000 http://adventureswitherica2015.wordpress.com/?p=161 ]]> What I did?
I began the introduction to my video, using the tool ” iSkySoft Video Editor” which seems to work better for me than iMovie. I also asked my friend if she’d be willing to act out a few scenes for me, as Ariel, and she agreed. Today in class, I used the fake twitter tools to make a twitter feed for the princesses battling it out, and other princesses who were excited for the show as well.

Why I did it?
I wasn’t going to add social media, but realized it added a humorous element to the “preview” I’m creating. This way it makes it obvious that the princesses are being shown in a modern atmosphere, and then I had the opportunity to add in Snow White & Sleeping Beauty for kicks as well. I put these tweets on an “adobe illustrator” page and saved it as a JPEG in order to put it into my movie. I plan to create a story board for Wednesday, work on the acting with my friend (which should take aprox an hour) this weekend and edit the movie all together by next week.

April 15th— draft (mockup of movie)

April 17th (and weekend)– online class, acting/filming parts with friend

20th (and rest of week)– edit movie, put everything together, create source page (make sure to cite all photos/ ideas used!)

22nd- peer review, see if I need to adjust anything, add sound to the background

(presentation…..anytime before May 5th)

Planning my Remix http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/08/planning-my-remix/ Wed, 08 Apr 2015 15:01:43 +0000 http://adventureswitherica2015.wordpress.com/?p=159 ]]> I have decided to do a sort of “Bachelor” preview, Princess edition for my remix. I will be using Cinderella and Ariel, as I am most familiar with those Disney Princesses. In order to keep in line with the stories, I’m going to re-watch the Disney movies, and then ask my friends to participate in the acting of the actual “preview.” This way, it will be modernized, but keep in theme with the Disney version. I would like to put in a famous song from each of the movies, if possible, but will have to figure out the rights of each of these. In order to create my movie, I plan to use IMOVIE (unless I can discover an easier app in the meantime). My genre will be a dating show of 2015.

what makes a good remix? http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/05/what-makes-a-good-remix/ Sun, 05 Apr 2015 14:46:51 +0000 http://adventureswitherica2015.wordpress.com/?p=157 ]]> 1. I thought that all of the examples of past students’ projects, were great representations of remixes of stories. I think it is important to stay consistent with the theme of the actual story but then implement one’s own “spark” into it, to make it unique. As the assignment indicates, we have to make sure to use 3 modes of communication.

2. As mentioned above, I believe that all the examples were great digital stories, but I enjoyed the videos over the magazine/ prezzi examples. My favorites were the 3 little pigs rendition, as well as the Repunzel (modern day) video. Both of these made sure to stick to the original characters but add fun, and quirky elements to them. By using the video option, the creators were able to put in linguistic elements, aural (because we could hear them) and spacial as they moved around.

3. I have some sort of idea for what I want to remix. I liked the Repunzel example, so I was thinking of making one about a few disney princesses as I was a big fan as a child. Instead of focusing on them in the past, I thought it’d be entertaining to do a kind of dating-site profile for them, or a game show with each of the Princesses introducing themselves. I am not too familiar with video- applications but I think this would give me the opportunity to expand my digital knowledge.

presentation day #3 http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/03/30/presentation-day-3/ Mon, 30 Mar 2015 14:46:49 +0000 http://adventureswitherica2015.wordpress.com/?p=155 ]]> Of today’s presentations, I would probably be interested in using Kim’s tool, Thematic. The other tools were concerned with mind maps, or time lines, and I couldn’t figure out a time where I would need to incorporate these to my projects. With Kim’s tool, however, I could use it for my personal enjoyment, (like Instagram). Thematic involves up to 20 photos, and puts them together in order to make a story. As I love to take photos, I feel like this would be a neat idea, similar to creating an album, if I wanted to send an array of images to family or those not associated with Facebook. Instagram has a constraint of being one image used at a time, when Thematic allows 20 images together. Because I never use the video option on Instagram, I don’t view the lack of videos on this tool as a constraint.

With regards to the TimeGlider tool, I did not find it visually appealing at all. If I were to use something to create a timeline, I would want to be able to see the dates associated with it, and in a horizontal fashion. In the TimeGlider tool, the facts came up vertically, and seemed messy throughout. Unfortunately, after hearing the presentation, I felt reassured in my opinion because Grace agreed with it.

presentation day #2 http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/03/27/presentation-day-2-2/ Fri, 27 Mar 2015 14:55:31 +0000 http://adventureswitherica2015.wordpress.com/?p=153 ]]> Today we listened to multiple presentations, and I thought I could see myself using any of the tools. I really enjoyed “Trello”, the tool that Natalie presented. Because I’m so concerned about organization on my own, I think it would be neat to be able to drag and “accomplish” certain goals, rather than erase and re write them down on paper. I’m a visual learning person, so it’s nice to view different agendas online. When I have a project to develop, it’s important to break up the project into different sections so it’s not as overwhelming. By using “Trello”, I can express what I still need to do, and what I have accomplished. I could use this for projects at home (crafts, etc) or exercise goals, or projects in school. There are many different options that Trello can aid in.

As I don’t take history classes, or have an interest in the subject, I probably wouldn’t use a tool that deals with history or geography. It was interesting to hear the presentations regarding these tools nonetheless.
