Junie B. Jones gets an iPhone http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/20/junie-b-jones-gets-an-iphone/ Mon, 20 Apr 2015 15:58:49 +0000 http://tiffanystancil.wordpress.com/?p=106 ]]> What I Did

Today, I made several text messages to go between Junie B. and her friends. I included several from Richie Lucille and That Grace. I even included a couple from Handsome Warren. I re-read the book again last night to gather some more inspiration for my remix. I’ve decided I’m going to make Richie Lucille a rich, shallow sorority girl (not saying that all sorority girls are like that at all. Just this one!) That Grace will be a student athlete. June B. Jones will be like most college girls, somewhere in between those two things. I also composed some tweets that I plan on using today.

Why I Did It

I chose to create text messages because in today’s world of passive aggressive text messages and people who are too scared to confront each other face-to-face, I thought texts were perfect. I included several sassy texts from Richie Lucille and That Grace, and several frustrated texts from Handsome Warren. Also, I included several “subtweets” to stress the passive aggressiveness of college girls (because the passive aggressiveness is real in 20-something females…)

I can’t wait for my social media collection to all come together! :)

Junie B. Jones in Mock-Up Form http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/15/junie-b-jones-in-mock-up-form/ Wed, 15 Apr 2015 16:03:36 +0000 http://tiffanystancil.wordpress.com/?p=103 ]]> Screen Shot 2015-04-15 at 11.58.07 AM

What I Did

Today, I created a mock up of my Junie B. Jones Facebook profile. I made sure to include her top “friends”, and I am going to keep them by the names she calls them in the book such as “Handsome Warren” and “That Grace”. I included one states update to show the sort of posts I plan on publishing, and I included her About Me section. I also posted that she is in a relationship with Handsome Warren even though she’s not.

Why I Did It

I wanted to include her top friends to make all of the characters come to life. I included a status update from Junie B. herself to show the level of cluelessness and sassiness that I am planning on using. For her About Me section, I chose her famous introduction to all of her books. I posted that she is in a relationship with Handsome Warren even though she’s not to make her seem really crazy. The further I come in this project, the more fun I’m having making her seem completely insane. :)

Junie B. Jones Takes on College http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/13/junie-b-jones-takes-on-college/ Mon, 13 Apr 2015 15:55:48 +0000 http://tiffanystancil.wordpress.com/?p=101 ]]> What I Did

Since my last post, I have purchased the original text on Amazon and reread it. I almost forgot how much Junie B. Jones books make me laugh. The signature language in the Junie B. Jones books is what sets it apart from the rest. I intend to keep some of the “kindergarten language” even though I plan on making Junie B. Jones in college in my remix. I want to keep this nonsense language because it is funny, and it is a trademark of Junie B. Jones that I want to keep. The book is fairly short, so I plan on using the entire text to portray my social media story. Today, I also made several fake Facebook statuses, and I pulled pictures from http://www.juniebjones.com for the character’s profile pictures. I also created a fake Instagram for this project. I plan on utilizing Instagram heavily along with Photoshop, Twitter, and Facebook.

Why I Did It

I think it is important to keep the theme of the “kindergarten language” at least somewhat throughout the project. I will not use it through the whole project, but I want to keep it because it keeps a sense of the originality. I do not want to lose the original story in my remix. Since I want to pull a lot of different social media sites together, I created some fake Facebook statuses together. I want each character to be represented through Facebook statuses. Since there is a lot of bickering between best friends in this book, I want to create the infamous passive-aggressive “I’m gonna call you out without actually calling you out” statuses. I also created a fake Instagram, so that I can communicate with “friends” (probably passive-aggressively, again). Basically, I want the entire theme of this project to feel sassy and angsty. I can’t wait to portray teenage Junie B. Jones!

Junie B. Jones Loves Handsome Warren http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/08/junie-b-jones-loves-handsome-warren/ Wed, 08 Apr 2015 16:00:21 +0000 http://tiffanystancil.wordpress.com/?p=69 ]]> “My name is Junie B. Jones. The B stands for Beatrice. Except I don’t like Beatrice. I just like B and that’s all.” – Junie B. Jones

Junie B

I grew up reading the Junie B. Jones series, and one of my favorite books is “Junie B. Jones Loves Handsome Warren” by Barbara Park. I plan on making either a Facebook page or a Twitter page for Junie B. Jones to document her fascination with “Handsome Warren.” June B. Jones has two best friends, and they are very important in her stories. I want to create mock social media pages for them to bring more life to Junie B. Jones’ social media page.

#Fetchnotes http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/03/30/fetchnotes-2/ Mon, 30 Mar 2015 15:54:13 +0000 http://tiffanystancil.wordpress.com/?p=67 ]]> I seemed to like Fetchnotes better than any of the other apps that were presented. Fetchnotes seemed like an app that would be very useful in organizing the lives of college students. This app seemed to aggregate all sectors of a student’s life, including the practical things such as car payments and grocery shopping. I also am a huge fan of #hashtags, so I liked that this app utilized hashtags. It makes it easier to go back and search for anything. One thing I thought may have been more difficult was if you forgot to include a hashtag in your original document. It was unclear whether or not you could search any word in a document or only hashtags. I think it would be best if you could search any word. It may take longer to sort through your results, but I think that would be better than searching for something after you forgot to include a hashtag. Fetchnotes seemed like an app I would want to use in the future. :)

VideoNot.es and Coggle http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/03/23/videonot-es-and-coggle/ Mon, 23 Mar 2015 15:57:03 +0000 http://tiffanystancil.wordpress.com/?p=65 ]]> I thought the VideoNot.es app looked really interesting. There were several times when I was taking an economics class that I thought it would be super useful. I think it would be especially useful in math classes. Since you can take notes as the problem progresses, it would be helpful to be able to click back to the part that you get confused. I am not taking any online classes at the moment, but I can see how it would be very helpful. I also thought the Coggle app looked very interesting. However, I would not want to pay to use it. I used to be a Biology major (for all of one semester. It was awful), and I could see how helpful that app would be in laying out the genus and species. Overall, I would definitely try VideoNot.es first! :)

Interrogating the Interface http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/03/22/interrogating-the-interface/ Sun, 22 Mar 2015 17:38:43 +0000 http://tiffanystancil.wordpress.com/?p=52 ]]> For my interface, I decided to analyze AudioPal.com. AudioPal is an application used to embed audio on a website. AudioPal is versatile because it lets you add audio via several different mediums. You can upload your own voice by recording audio through your phone, you can use the text-to-speech feature, you can record your own voice through your computer’s microphone, or you can even put part of an mp3 file on your website.

Adios, Blacksburg! Hola, Bahamas! http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/03/04/adios-blacksburg-hola-bahamas/ Wed, 04 Mar 2015 16:48:16 +0000 http://tiffanystancil.wordpress.com/?p=50 ]]> I am going to try to get the majority of my project done before I leave for Spring break. I am going to Atlantis in the Bahamas! :) Yay! I’m super excited, but I don’t want to have to be worrying about all of my assignments that are due after Spring break while I’m trying to soak up the sun. Since we are leaving for New Jersey tomorrow to relax before our flight on Sunday, I can’t get it done tomorrow. So, I will get my 50 minutes of work done on Friday, while I’m in New Jersey. On Friday, I will create my login tool, research what the tool does and how it works, fill in the writer/designer analysis questions, outline my web essay, and take my screenshots. If I finish that early, I will move onto drafting the web essay and slideshow. Perhaps, I’ll try to finish that either Saturday or on the plane on Sunday.

I’m so looking forward to Spring break, and I’m gonna make sure all of my work is done, so I can really relax. :)

What I Did and Why I Did It (2-18-15) http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/02/27/what-i-did-and-why-i-did-it-2-18-15/ Fri, 27 Feb 2015 17:19:42 +0000 http://tiffanystancil.wordpress.com/?p=44 ]]> What I Did

Today, I learned to wrap text around images on my site. I wrapped the text around my Digital Identity image on my About Me page. I also learned how to embed a video, so I chose to embed a short clip (one of my favorites) of Spongebob Squarepants.

How I Did It

To wrap the text around the image, I clicked “Add Media” and then chose the “Left Alignment” tool. This made the text flush against the photo, which was placed on the left side of my page. To embed the video of Spongebob Squarepants, I chose “Add Media” and then chose “Insert from URL”. I then copy and pasted the link into the provided bar, and the video successfully showed up on my Spongebob Squarepants page.
