I liked this way of doing it because I changed around a lot of things after seeing what the scenery was going to look like. When first writing the script, I had each of the broadcasters speaking in rather long blurbs which proposed a problem in incorporating the speech bubbles as far as space went for each panel. I waited until I had caught up with the cartoon to finish the last part of the script, which if I could do it over I would not have, but for time reasons it was my best option and I still think it turned out pretty well. Completing the cartoon was such a relief because it was so time consuming, and in the end I’m proud of what I made

Extensive Work with Pixton http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/05/06/extensive-work-with-pixton/ Wed, 06 May 2015 17:47:29 +0000 http://trentb14.wordpress.com/?p=196 ]]> At the very beginning of creating the cartoon, each panel was taking me much longer than I had expected and I was worried about the amount of time it was going to take to complete the whole thing. But as time progressed and my familiarity with the tools increased, I was able to speed up the process a bit by knowing exactly where everything was and what I was going to need next. I ended up incorporating the broadcaster’s speech bubbles into the panel of action that they were discussing. It wasn’t my intention at first but it helped to save a little bit of time as well as help it floe better for the reader, in my opinion.

Really Exploring Pixton http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/05/06/really-exploring-pixton/ Wed, 06 May 2015 17:41:45 +0000 http://trentb14.wordpress.com/?p=194 ]]> Pixton caught my eye from the beginning for multiple reasons. I liked the way that the animations actually looked as well as all of the features of the site. The user pretty much has ultimate freedom in their animations- from expressions/actions of characters, scene creation, voice-over, speech bubbles, and publication. One thing that I noticed that I realized would come in handy was the extensive preset expressions that the website had. Since my script was rather long and, in turn, the cartoon would be, not having to manipulate everyone’s face during every scene was a blessing. After working on the cartoon for 4+ hours, I was really grateful for it.

Finding the right tool for Project 4 http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/05/06/finding-the-right-tool-for-project-4/ Wed, 06 May 2015 17:36:17 +0000 http://trentb14.wordpress.com/?p=192 ]]> At this point I already know that I’m not going to be making a video broadcast, but rather going to be creating some sort of animation. After searching through a bunch of websites and beginning free trials to see what they’re all about, I decided to work with Pixton. At the time of decision and starting my cartoon, I failed to realize that you had to pay to get full access of the site. Since I had already begun a little bit of the cartoon and really liked the website and all of the features of it, I decided to spring for the monthly fee and keep working on what I had started.

Beginning Script for Project 4 http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/05/06/beginning-script-for-project-4/ Wed, 06 May 2015 17:31:20 +0000 http://trentb14.wordpress.com/?p=190 ]]> These following posts are a little late but I needed to update the work that I have been doing for my story remix project. I began with writing the script for the project because I was wishy-washy with what exactly I was going to be doing but I knew that I was going to be using the script regardless. Going into the writing process, I was kind of nervous because I’ve never really done this type of back-and forth conversation writing, but it flowed surprisingly well from the very beginning. I sat down and knocked out about 3/4 of it in about 6 hours. It was a lot to do in one sitting but it felt good to get the majority of it done and I was pretty happy with the start that I had.

Project 4 cartoon and class survey http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/27/project-4-cartoon-and-class-survey/ Mon, 27 Apr 2015 15:58:17 +0000 http://trentb14.wordpress.com/?p=180 ]]> What I did?

Today in class I worked on the cartoon that I’m creating for my project broadcast. Most of my work so far has been on the script for the broadcast, so today I spent time creating the characters for it and coming up with the different background/settings that I’m going to use for it. I tried to complete the SPOT survey for the class but my computer seemed to be having trouble loading the page so I will complete it when my computer starts behaving.

Why I did it?

Although most of my work has been focused on the writing for the project, the animation for it will be rather time consuming so I think that it’s necessary for me to knock out as much as I can while I can. It won’t be terribly hard work but the broadcast is rather lengthy so I’m going to have a lot of frames for the cartoon and will need to make changes to each one of the frames, mainly to change the expressions of the broadcasters.

Project 4 Script and Animation http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/24/project-4-script-and-animation/ Fri, 24 Apr 2015 16:01:36 +0000 http://trentb14.wordpress.com/?p=178 ]]> What I Did?

Today I focused on finishing up the script for my broadcast. I wouldn’t say that it is completely done because I’m going to step away from it for a little bit and then go look over it from a fresh point of view, as well as get some other people to read over it. I’ve been working on the animation for my cartoon outside of class and the website that I’m using is great because it allows for a lot of freedom in creating expression, which will be vital to my project since I will be doing voice-over.

Why I did it?

I think the script is the most important part of the project. I’ve really enjoyed creating these characters and making this satirical piece that is making light of what would be horrific idea in real life. It is supposed to be really cheesy humor and back-and-forth with the broadcasters which I think I’ve definitely achieved, but hopefully it will make some people laugh.

Revision Plan for Project 4 http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/22/revision-plan-for-project-4/ Wed, 22 Apr 2015 15:57:51 +0000 http://trentb14.wordpress.com/?p=176 ]]> Overall, I think that I’m on a pretty good track for my project. I still have to complete the last section of the script for my broadcast in order to wrap it up, but the feedback that I got on it was extremely helpful and pointed out some things that I probably would have missed due to being to close to the project. I got ideas for things I would not have thought of, like throwing in a commercial break during the broadcast, as well as not using the characters names so much; all of which will help give the broadcast a more realistic effect. I’m also going to try to give each of the broadcasters their own, more unique personality which I hope will bring a little more dimension to it. Also, I still feel like I could edit the script multiple more times for content because there is more that I can add to it.

Work on Project 4 http://spring15blogs.tracigardner.com/2015/04/20/work-on-project-4/ Mon, 20 Apr 2015 15:52:06 +0000 http://trentb14.wordpress.com/?p=174 ]]> What I did?

Today I read the section in Writer/Designer about creating the proper citations for my project. I shouldn’t have too many citations since I am mainly using the text The Most Dangerous game and creating most everything else myself.

Why I did it?

There are multiple ways to properly cite sources, some which are more specific to multimodal projects like this one that I am not very familiar with. I needed to figure out the best and most appropriate way to cite my sources within my project.
