What I did…
Today I removed the theme I had originally chosen for my blog, Goran, and replaced it with Radcliffe. This change set me behind quite a bit, but ultimately I am much more for happy with the appearance and content of my blog in a new theme. Luckily, I can utilize the grace period and get back on track before I submit my final site.
In the new theme I have been able to add a personal logo, a photo as a header for each blog post, and more flexibility with the theme’s header. The header on Goran was particularly hard for me to change. I’m not sure if it’s just me, but Radcliffe seems more user friendly.
Why I did it…
Originally, I was really excited about using Goran. I looked at the example websites using theme and saw how customizable they could be, with a lot of opportunity to use images and manipulate the layout of the website. However, when I started trying to apply these changes myself, I learned that much of the customization options were limited to the upgraded plan that cost over $100. I tried to make Goran work, but ultimately changed to Radcliffe where I have had more luck.
Also, I couldn’t change the font of Goran headings and menus. This really bothered me. Normally I like san serif fonts better than serif fonts, which are used in the headings of Radcliffe, but this one in particular was too bold for my taste. I like that in Radcliffe a serif and san serif font are used, providing some contrast, while Goran only used san serif. For some reason I am kind of a nerd/extremely particular about fonts, in fact Helvetica is my favorite documentary.
