An Overview of Inklewriter

Through my Interrogate an Interface project, I explored a tool called Inklewriter. Inklewriter was founded by two Cambridge game developers named Jon Ingold and Joseph Humfrey. They founded their company, Inkle, in an effort to combine storytelling and design in an interactive way, especially for children.

Inklewriter is a website that allows the user to write stories and see their stories change by adding a different ending or a different twist in the middle of the story. Inklewriter also allows readers to make choices about the stories they are reading.

This is what makes Inklewriter a unique site for both readers and writers; writers no longer have to cut out parts of their stories and readers can decide which path they want the characters to follow.

There is no cost to make an account on Inklewriter, and you actually don’t even have to make an account to write or read stories. Inklewriter even saves the story on a local drive. However, if you want to work on more than one story at a time, you need to make an account.

The intended audience for Inklewriter is anyone who is interested in creative writing, especially those who want to make their stories interactive. The secondary audience includes people who are looking to read interactive stories and, as stated by the founders themselves, teachers who are looking for tools to get students interested in writing.
