What I Did
Tonight I created my blog site from the beginning. I chose to create a new site, as opposed to adding to my personal domain, in order to keep posts for class separate from my professional build. I looked to keep consistency within my sites with the theme. By finding a theme on this site that was similar in look to the theme on my other site, I find it easy to keep things in perspective. I also set my privacies to make everything for this site less visible and harder to find.
The tagline I created for my site is something that describes me. I’m a huge video nerd in the sense that I love broadcasting (I work for HokieVision) and video editing. But I enjoy writing just as much and can stagger on for pages writing about nothing. I tend to go off topic a lot when I write simply because I get so many thoughts racing and feel the need to type them all.
Why I Did It
I made all my decisions based solely on how I wanted this site to be perceived. To be honest, the only perception that matters to me within this site is that of my teacher, thus the choices I make within posts, appearance, tags, etc are with thought of how I will be graded within that. As stated above, this site is to be able to blog for our class, it is not something that will be marketed into my professional perception. However, if I create something within a design, or write a blog that is a good “self-sell” then I will probably put it into my main website as well. I always look for ways to sell myself a little bit more.
